Hi! I'm the poster artist. I just wanted to say that I respect your opinion on the artwork in question.
There's no right answer… that's what makes art so wonderful.
The thought behind the poster is that it was Spring… and when I think of Spring, I think of two things:
Renewal (in nature and the creative version) and baseball.
Using the baseball theme as a frame (I chose the baseball cards from the 1952 Bowman set, which, I think, are the most beautiful card set ever produced),It's also from the more-perfect era in baseball: post-segregation, relatively drug-free and when players were not multi-millionaires. Most had different jobs in the off-season and many lived in the same community as they played. These were not pampered brats. They loved the game and it showed. It was the perfect showcase for the beauty of the sport.
I arranged these cards by commonalities… the ballet (hands above the head) pose, blue sky and clouds shots, catchers, portraits, batting positions, etc….
and then finally finished an image that been dancing around my head for a long time: the catcher is most distinctive figure on the field… and so… stands apart from the rest of the crowd. It's not easy being different and he's got the protection to prove it. This unique figure stands alone, head not in the clouds but actually part of the cloud… dreaming creative things while awaiting the next pitch.
I just thought I should throw my two cents in, so you might get a different perspective… but in any case, Cheers!

i dig what your saying brother Art but i dont hate baseball... hell, take me out to the ball game! ,lol, i think the poster represents what baseball used to be and for some still is...cold beer,pretzels,seventh inning doobie breaks,,er i mean stretches : ) : ) : ) ,spendin time away from work with your family and friends,just chillin with the boys of summer! be it at the park or just on the radio while goofin off in the garage...i don't know about all the politics involved,,but i say "Play Ball!" Peace and Love my friend!
When the Grateful Dead started playing the tune, "Keep Your Dayjob", Dead Heads downed it big time using such words as "I Hate this song" & "Oh boy, Reality check!". It took away that escaped, magical fealing of not being in the outside world.
GD Mgmt. got a lot of static about how not everyone wants to here about keeping their dayjob.
Well, I feel that way about Baseball. I, & I know many others don't care for the sport. I relize you can't please all, also. but...
IMO: Most are steriod abusing, violent, over paid vermin. All I see is Dollar signs on this poster. No one is worth that kind of money for any sport. People struggling day 2 day & these guys make 20 times as much as a regular hard working individule.
Trying to keep up on bills & clothing, feeding their families, and on their TV says, baseball player So & So just signed a 45 Million dollar contract on his terms............. for what???? Looks good in a uniform and can hit home runs??? So what if he's paid that over a three year contract. IT's NOT RIGHT and this poster is part of the Problem, Doesn't help the Solution.
All the Moonalice posters depict some kind of special magical attitude. ALL are gorgeous. This is a reality poster dedicated to Baseball. No way man! Sorry but I have found in my opion, My least favorite Moonalic poster to date. And it's the only one I feel this way about after 5 years!
