Who Was There?
According Moonalice legend, the area around Guerneville was once home to a Native American tribe called the Pomo. The Pomo were a fun loving tribe related by legend to our own Moonalice tribe. They were big fans of water sports. One of their favorites was sea horse racing on the Russian River, where fortunes could be made or lost, depending on the putcome. Today's poster by Sonoma County's own Stanley Mouse depicts the finish of the legendary Pomo Derby of 1776, when a sea horse named Smokin' Doobie won by a mile with Bookka Matches in the saddle. The exacta that day paid 420 beaver pelts.
Note:
Jason Crosby played keyboard and bass.
